Reprocessing the Past. Reclaiming Your Future.
EMDR THERAPY ACROSS THE LIFESPAN
Compassionate Healing Through EMDR
At Mending Forge Therapy & Wellness Center LLC, I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for children, teens, and adults. EMDR is a well-researched, evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps people process distressing experiences, reduce emotional distress, and move toward healing without requiring them to relive every detail of what happened.
Many people seek EMDR when they feel "stuck" by painful memories, anxiety, trauma, or experiences that continue to affect their daily lives. EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming, allowing you to move forward with greater confidence, resilience, and hope.
How EMDR Works
EMDR follows an eight-phase treatment approach, with your safety and well-being guiding every step of the process. Before processing difficult memories, we'll focus on building trust, strengthening coping skills, and ensuring you feel prepared.
Using bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps the brain process experiences that may have become "stuck" following trauma or overwhelming stress. As memories are reprocessed, many people notice they feel less emotionally intense, experience fewer distressing symptoms, and develop healthier, more adaptive beliefs about themselves and their experiences.
Treatment always moves at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you. You remain in control throughout the process, and every session is tailored to your unique needs and goals.
EMDR for Children, Teens & Adults
Healing looks different at every stage of life. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I adapt treatment to each person's developmental level and individual needs.
For young children, EMDR may be thoughtfully integrated with play therapy, sandtray therapy, expressive arts, and other developmentally appropriate interventions. For teens and adults, EMDR is often combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches to support lasting healing.
What Can EMDR Help With?
EMDR has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of concerns, including:
* Anxiety and panic
* Trauma and PTSD
* Depression
* Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
A Brief History of EMDR
EMDR was developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s. Originally researched as a treatment for trauma, it has since become one of the most extensively studied therapies for PTSD and is recognized internationally as an effective treatment for trauma-related concerns.
Today, EMDR is used with children, teens, and adults to help individuals process a wide variety of distressing experiences while supporting long-term emotional healing and resilience.
